This is the most important question
to ask yourself before starting your search. I think the biggest misconception is that
working from home will be easier than working outside the home. This may be true
for some people, but not for all. There are some important issues that need to
be resolved before you jump in head first.
1. Do you have the the right
equipment and space for a home office?
2. Do you have the right frame of
mind, or do you give up easily?
3. What skills do you have?
4. Can you work without supervision?
5. If your children are young,
do you have child care?
6. Can you afford to do contract
work without health benefits?
It does require more work and
persistence to find these jobs. Once you have the job for which you been
searching, are you able to fulfill the obligation? It takes more
dedication and family support than any other job you may have had. You must be
able set a schedule and keep to it.
Another big obstacle to overcome is your own
family. Do they realize that you are not home to run errands, answer telephone
calls, or schedule the appointments, you are there to work.
There are a lot of woman in the work
place who think it would be so nice to be able to stay home with their
children, until they are home. I spoke to a woman that convinced her
present employer to allow her to work from home. She told me, that with the constant interruptions,
the only way she was able to get any work done is when she went into the
office.
Ask yourself, if you are at home,
will you have the time to dedicate yourself to a job with your children
home? Are they really old enough?
Don't get me wrong, working from home definitely has it's benefits.
You don't have to waste time on commuting back and forth to work. The hours are
more flexible, so you are able to spend more time with your family. Although no matter how you look at it,
working from home is still work.
I don't mean to discourage anyone,
but it is better to face these issues now before you waste your time looking for
a job that you are unable to handle.
If you have thought about all these
issues and have already prepared for them, you are ready to begin your search.
With our great resources and your time and perseverance the right job is
waiting for you!
